For a bug, it helps to include your macOS version, the Stacco version (shown at the bottom of Settings) and what you were doing.

System requirements

  • macOS 14 or later
  • Stacco lives in the menu bar; there is no Dock icon.
  • 12 languages

Opening the Archive and Settings

  • Archive: click the Stacco icon in the menu bar. Jot a quick note at the bottom; all filed notes sit above.
  • Menu: right-click (or control-click) the icon. You’ll find “Archive…”, “Hide Notes”, “Settings…”, “Get to know Stacco” and “Quit Stacco”.
  • Settings: choose “Settings…” in the menu. Among other things you set the quick-capture shortcut there (⌥⌘N, changeable or switched off), “Launch at login”, the default color and “Show over full-screen apps”.
  • See the introduction again: choose “Get to know Stacco” in the menu.

Quick answers

Does Stacco sync with iCloud?

No. Your notes stay local on your Mac.

Does Stacco work in full-screen mode?

Yes — notes can stay visible over full-screen apps. You can turn it off in Settings.

Where do notes go when I put them away?

Into the Archive. One click on the menu-bar icon opens it. Stacks, search, all local.

Deleted a note by accident?

One click on “Undo” brings the note back, history and all.

What happens to my notes?

They stay in the app, on your Mac. Stacco never connects to the internet — nothing leaves your device.

How do I connect Claude or another AI to Stacco?

With the AI connection: open Settings (right-click the menu-bar icon) and switch on “AI connection”. Then:

  • Claude Code: in the “Claude Code” row click “Copy command”, paste it into Terminal and press Return. Then start a new Claude Code session — from then on you can ask Claude to put something on a note for you.
  • Claude app: in the “Claude app” row click “Add”. Stacco puts the extension (Stacco.mcpb) in your Downloads folder and opens it in the Claude app; confirm the installation there.
  • Other AI apps (Cursor, LM Studio, VS Code, Gemini CLI, Codex …): in the “Other AI apps” row click “Copy settings” and paste them into the app’s MCP settings. Cursor and LM Studio take them exactly as they are; other apps need the same address and key, often under slightly different names. With LM Studio and a model running on your Mac it even works without any internet. The ChatGPT app can’t use local connections like this yet.

If “Install” is greyed out in the Claude app, you’re using it with a company or team account that only allows approved extensions. The person who manages that account can help — or connect Stacco through Claude Code instead.

The AI can put notes on your desktop, read, change, tick off and file them, but it can’t delete anything. Every change stays in the history, so you can always rewind. The connection only accepts requests from apps on your Mac, and only with the key from your settings. Switch it off and it closes at once.

Is there a Stacco for iPhone?

No. The pull gesture only makes sense on a Mac — and we don’t build half a thing.

Uninstalling Stacco

  1. Right-click the Stacco icon in the menu bar, then choose “Quit Stacco”.
  2. In the Finder, open the Applications folder and drag Stacco to the Trash.
  3. Your notes are still in Stacco’s data folder on your Mac. To remove them as well: in the Finder press ⇧⌘G, enter ~/Library/Containers/com.hyperzero.stacco and move that folder to the Trash. Once you empty the Trash, all notes and their history are gone for good.

Privacy

Stacco collects no data, has no account and never connects to the internet. The details are in the privacy policy, section Stacco.
