COMPARISON

Piuma vs. KlarText

Both believe in the same thing: text without baggage, no subscription, no AI theatre. KlarText answers with an editor — one window, one document, pure. Piuma answers with a scratchpad that is always there: one keystroke in the menu bar, text in, clean text out. Two answers to the same question — depending on whether you WRITE texts or ROUTE them.

Feature KlarText Piuma
Price Free 14-day trial, then $29.99 once Free core · Pro $4.99 once
Home Its own app window, document editor Menu bar — one keystroke, always there
Core idea Plain text as the format that stays readable forever A waypoint: text in, formatting out, clean onwards
Killing formatting Paste and Reflow (⌘⇧V): hard-wrapped lines are rejoined into flowing text on paste; “Paste from PDF” repairs PDF text Clean paste + one-click scrub + link detox (utm_* & co.)
Markdown Plain text only, no syntax highlighting Three views of one text: source, plain, formatted & editable
History — Time machine (Pro): earlier states come back
Files Opens and saves .txt files Drag & drop: text, RTF, links, files — even images via OCR (Pro)
Subscription / AI / tracking No / No / No (App Store label: data not collected) No / No / No — even this website is tracker-free

Honest verdict

KlarText is a fine piece of conviction: if you want to write long texts in pure plain text, take it — 14 days to try, then $29.99 once. Piuma plays a different game: it is the waypoint for text that has to travel — from ChatGPT into an email, from a PDF into your CMS — and arrive clean. If your day is made of copy and paste, you pay the $4.99 exactly once and earn it back daily.
